Dr. John McManus, D.V.M. – Owner/CEO

Dr. McManus was born and raised in the San Luis Valley of Colorado. He moved to Denver in 1956 and graduated from East High School in 1960. He then joined the Navy from 1960 through 1963.

Dr. McManus was a bank officer before graduating from Colorado State University with a degree in veterinary medicine in 1975. He practiced one year in Nebraska and one year in southern Colorado before moving back to Denver in 1977. Since 1977, he has owned and operated two veterinary practices in Lakewood. He has owned Downtown Animal Care Center since 2003.

Dr. McManus and his wife, Donita have been married since 1966. They have two grown children.

 

Dr. Bonnie Kramer, D.V.M

Bonnie is a Colorado native.  She received both her DVM and BS degrees from Colorado State University.  She NEVER plans on leaving Colorado, except frequent vacations.  Prior to attending veterinary school, she volunteered at the Denver Zoo for 2 years, with lions & tiger & bears.....OH BOY.....but decided dogs and cats were somewhat safer! 
 
In 2005 Bonnie received a "7 EVERDAY HERO" award from the ABC television affiliate in Denver for her volunteer work with assistance dogs. 
 
In her spare time (????), she loves to fly fish and hike in the Rocky Mountains.  Bonnie is now on puppy #9 with Paw Pals Assistance Dogs, and still enjoys raising and training "the little devils".

  Dr. Bethel Watts, D.V.M

Beth was born and raised in Southern California, graduated from Palisades High School, BS from Metro State, MS from University of Wyoming and DVM from Colorado State University.  She practiced for 2 years in Arizona and has been a small animal veterinarian in the Denver area since 1985.
 
Besides working for Downtown Animal Care Center, she travels all over Colorado with a mobile spay/neuter clinic for the Maxfund.
 
In her spare time, she enjoys reading, jazzercise, hiking, swimming and traveling extensively in North America, South America and Europe.  She has a daughter, son-in-law, 2 grandchildren, along with 2 dogs, 4 cats and 1 African gray parrot.
  Dr. Edward Umlauf, D.V.M. - Orthopedics

Upon graduating from CSU Veterinary Medicine in 1974, Dr. Umlauf returned to the Surgical Metabolic Laboratory in Fort Collins for a post-docturate surgical program. His NIH fellowship focused on spinal cord trauma, but he was well versed in adominal, thoracic and orthopedic surgery.

Dr. Umlauf has owned two small animal practices but is currently performing orthopedic surgery almost exclusively.

Dr. Umlauf was instrumental in assisting in the formation of the Maxfund in the 1980's and largely responsible for the statewide tax funded spay/neuter performed by Maxfund in the state of Colorado.

Dr. Umlauf's plans are to remain active in helping rescue groups and clients in need of surgical care at Downtown Animal Care Center. Currently, he provides low cost veterinary orthopedic services, including cheap TPLO procedures, in cooperation with Downtown Animal Care Center to pets throughout the Denver area.
 

Colleen – Practice Manager

Colleen is a native of Colorado. She has worked in the veterinary field since she was 14. She has worked for Downtown Animal Care Center since 2006 after working for 12 years in the automotive industry.

In her free time she enjoys movies, reading, spending time with family and friends, and being at the beck and call of two very needy cats, Milo and Furbie.

 

Amanda – Customer Care Representative

Amanda has worked for Downtown Animal Care Center since December 2006. She is currently attending Metropolitan State College pursuing a degree as an elementary school teacher.

She loves being able to bring her dog, Tucker, to work every day.

 

Amber - Certified Veterinary Technician/Technician Supervisor

Amber is originally from California. She moved to Denver and attended the Bel-Rea Institute. She has worked for Downtown Animal Care Center since graduating in 2007.

In her spare time she enjoys watching local bands and spending time with her animals.

 

Lori - Veterinary Technician

Lori has lived all over the United States, from Washington to Michigan. She has worked for Downtown Animal Care Center since she graduated from Pima Medical Institute in 2001.

Lori is married with three children.

 

Janna Sears - Veterinary Technician

Janna has been a Veterinary Technician since 1994 and has been employed with Downtown Animal Care Center since 2007. She also does all the office work for her husband’s electrical company.

She and her husband, Brian, are owned by two boxers, Titus and Ronin. She enjoys spending time with her family, hiking with the dogs and working in the yard.
